You have a few new sisters and brothers….

We’re going to need a bigger dining table, and maybe a fleet of minivans, because the SPLAT! family keeps growing. We’re super psyched to announce that more than 50 new stations from the US, Canada & around the globe have joined us since this day one year ago. There’s always room for more, and tons of fun to go around, so please tell a friend:)

Thanks to all SPLAT! radio stations new and old for making us a part of your imaging and station sound.

Let’s SPLAT!

What makes our day? Making your day, of course. Seriously, hearing from psyched SPLAT! users is always a crowd fave around here.  Why?  Come on, who doesn’t enjoy a good virtual fist bump every now and then? It’s fun to do fun work, help users shape the sound, and ultimately the brand, of their stations.  Customer satisfaction rules. (It’s really tempting to call it “SPLATisfaction,” but we won’t do that.)  Wait, what? We just did?  Sorry.

Anyway, we’d love to hear from you, too.  Let us know how you use SPLAT!, what you think, what you want, share some sounds or thoughts, or just reach out and say “hey.”

The Sky’s the Limit…with SPLAT!

Rockin’ the controls in a radio studio isn’t quite the same as manning the cockpit of a fighter jet, so this might be as close as we ever get!
This was a really fun project we did for the United States Air Force Academy.  SPLAT! produced the custom radio imaging for the 50th anniversary rebranding of 97.7 KAFA, “The Voice of the Academy.”
Here’s a quick sample featuring VO by Chloe Dolandis.

EQ 4 VO – BIG BOOM edition

We’re always happy to welcome contributions from guest writers, producers, thinkers, creatives, friends, friends of friends, allies, etc.  Here’s a lotta wisdom from one of our favorite polymaths, Tony Maddox.  You may have seen his original and highly imaginative art and illustration work on his awesome website and you’ve no doubt heard his imaging work on Philly’s WMMR, WMGK and BEN-FM, where he’s worked with some of the biggest, boldest voices in the biz.  Since big voices often come with big bottoms (low end frequencies, we mean) knowing how to tame the lowest lows is an art form in itself.  Enough words from us, let’s let Tony share his…..

SIMPLE SECRETS TO MIXING THE PERFECT VOICE-OVER

(Quick note, none of the products mentioned in this article are endorsements or paid advertisements. They’re all products I purchased.)

A rock-solid VO is arguably the most important part of any piece of production. Chances are, if you’re working with a pro, the read will be spot-on. But often, with a great read comes a great big gigantic booming voice that can rattle your teeth out of your ears (this may or may not be scientifically accurate…). How do you wrangle that boom and cram the Voice of Zeus into an already-busy mix?
